Description
Mandarin and oud. Citrus freshness on top, incense darkness below. An oud that doesn't scare.
The fragrance
MOA opens with a burst of luminous mandarin — a juicy, almost candied citrus that, in this context, functions almost as a deceptive promise. For the first 10-15 minutes, the opening feels clear, bright, almost familiar. But underneath, the darkness to come is already hinted at: there's a mineral, slightly medicinal echo that anticipates the true character of the perfume.
The heart is where MOA dramatically shifts gears. Patchouli appears in its densest version — earthy, slightly chocolatey, with that resinous signature that only good quality patchouli offers. It's a confident, unapologetic patchouli that acts as a hinge between the citrus freshness of the opening and the woody depth of the base. This transition is one of the distinctive hallmarks of the original perfume.
And the base is where everything comes together. Oud (agarwood), myrrh, and French labdanum — three resinous raw materials that build a dense, smoky oriental architecture, with an almost religious component. The oud here is not the fierce oud of some Arab houses; it's a refined, accessible oud for someone who has never worn one. Myrrh contributes its creamy-resinous signature with an echo of incense, and labdanum (cistus) closes with a leathery-balsamic note. The overall effect has authority, but it is not aggressive.

The original, in perspective
MOA is inspired by M7 Oud Absolu, one of the first major designer ventures into oud — the most expensive and revered raw material in oriental perfumery. Originally launched in 2002 under the name M7 and reformulated in 2011 as Oud Absolu, it is the perfume with which the Western mainstream began to take oud seriously.
The original bottle costs around €180 in selective perfumeries. MOA gives you a composition built with the same olfactory structure — luminous mandarin, dense patchouli, oud + myrrh + labdanum base — manufactured in Spain, without the layers of exclusive packaging and selective distribution that multiply the price of the original. The difference with the original exceeds €150 per 100 ml bottle.
When and how
MOA is clearly an autumn-winter perfume. It works best when the cold contains the projection and allows the oud and myrrh to progressively settle on skin and clothing. In spring it works if you apply it with a light hand; in summer it can feel dense, although some wear it precisely in August in air-conditioned climates, where the darkness of the base takes on another meaning.
One spray on the neck and one on the inner wrist is enough — MOA is one of those perfumes where more is losing, not winning, because its density projects on its own. It lasts between 8 and 10 hours on the skin; on clothes, it can be noticed the next day. It works very well for formal wear: a long dinner, an evening event, a professional event at the end of the day.
Who it's for
MOA is not a perfume for beginners. It is designed for those who already have some experience with orientals and woody fragrances and are looking to take a step towards oud without starting with the most radical Arab houses. For those who appreciate niche perfumery over mainstream perfumery. For those who value depth over immediate impact.
If you wear or have worn Amouage's Interlude, Montale's Black Aoud, Black Afgano or any masculine woody oriental with presence, MOA will sound familiar yet different — the mandarin in the opening is what separates the original (and MOA) from the rest of the ouds on the market.
What those who already wear our niche oud equivalents say
MOA is a launch — it doesn't have its own reviews yet. But in its same family (woody oriental with oud), verified reviews in our store feature some recurring phrases:
"Of all the comparisons I've made, this is one of the most incredible, tremendously addictive, brutal longevity" — Verified review for ITL (Amouage Interlude equivalent).
"Pay 10 times less for this perfume to have the same quality and performance" — Verified review for BKA (Montale Black Aoud equivalent).
For MOA, as an equivalent with the same note family and the same national manufacturing, we expect similar results. When reviews start coming in, you'll see them below, unfiltered — more than 20,000 verified reviews with an average of 4.8 out of 5 support the catalog.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly does it smell like?
The first impression is luminous mandarin — a juicy, almost candied citrus. After 10-15 minutes, dense, earthy patchouli appears, acting as a transition. The base, after an hour on the skin, settles into a deep blend of oud, myrrh, and labdanum: oriental, smoky, with an echo of incense and leather. It's a perfume that evolves a lot — starting fresh-citrusy, ending oriental-woody.
How long does it last on the skin?
Between 8 and 10 hours on skin; significantly longer on clothes. It is one of the perfumes with the best longevity in the niche catalog — oud, myrrh, and labdanum anchor strongly, and the ensemble lasts throughout a long day.
Is it inspired by M7 Oud Absolu?
Yes. MOA is built by referencing the olfactory structure of the original — mandarin in the opening, patchouli in the heart, oud + myrrh + labdanum in the base — manufactured in Spain. The difference with the original exceeds €150 per 100 ml bottle.
Is it an "easy" oud or a "hard" oud?
MOA belongs to the family of Western ouds — refined, accessible, balanced with notes that soften the raw material. Mandarin provides brightness, patchouli creaminess, myrrh and labdanum a balsamic texture that envelops the oud without letting it be aggressive. If you have never worn an oud, MOA is a good first step. If you already know radical Arab ouds like Black Aoud or Black Afgano, MOA will seem more balanced and less confrontational.
How is it different from other ouds in the catalog?
ITL (Amouage's Interlude) is more spicy and dark, without the citrus component of the opening. BKA (Montale's Black Aoud) is a more radical and Arabic oud, with less Western refinement. OFG (Lattafa's Oud for Glory) is the most accessible and spicy option. MOA is distinguished by two things: the luminous mandarin in the opening — unusual for an oud — and the presence of French labdanum in the base, which provides a recognizable leathery-balsamic texture.
